Lytham took the honours in this well contested match when Phil Taylor blundered a rook against Phil Raynor in the very last action of the night, thereby losing the chance to win the game and salvage a draw for his team. As the Lytham player only had 90 seconds left on his clock a draw was immediately agreed. The game had been close up to that point with Phil Taylor trying to press home in a tricky ending. Lytham had a solid team out and certainly deserved at least a share of the points.
On board one Tom Leah put in a solid performance against the higher rated Peter Jowett and played the ending very well to ensure he got a draw. Rob Gallagher was too strong for Peter Thompson on board two and he converted an endgame advantage into a win to put Lytham ahead. Meanwhile Clifford Rutlidge accepted an offer of a draw from David Aspinall when their position simplified.
On board three Conor Reaney had a dangerous looking attack going against John Cooper, But John negotiated his way through a difficult position and created threats of his own before a draw was agreed. So congratulations to Lytham who played very well on the night.
